No Stop When Studying and Always Pace forward
Judy Lu is the VIP Service Director General of Far Eastern Plaza Hotel Taipei. She is always showing pleasant smiles and providing services here and there from the large parties, the international conferences, the President’s banquets to various enterprise cocktail parties, dinner parties and wedding dinners. Her sincere attitude and thoughtful consideration give the customers a comfortable feeling of great sincerity in their body and utmost clarity in their mind, as if they were staying at home. This has established a celebrated public praise for that Five-star hotel.
“I came to work here in January 1994. In the past, I had little work experiences as required in the hotel and had no relationships thoroughly, which could be described as a drop with double superior difficulties. You could imagine how great the pressure and challenges it would be!” Judy Lu said that her job was introduced by her father’s relation and with her own self-recommendation letter, she received several interviews from the Shangri-la Hotel Management Group and finally got her employment. She clearly noted that she had no excuse to be afraid and what she could do was just to pace forward.
Judy Lu had no individual office when she started her job and no one came to tell her how to provide the VIP services. Yet, the isolation feeling of her job had not defeated her. She began thoughtful consideration and tried to find out the best way to work. She encouraged herself and initiated herself to say hello to every customer, exchange the name cards and express the sincerity of the hotel. Meanwhile, in order to make herself to be in place within a short period, she worked twelve to sixteen hours every day and expected to receive the confirmation from her relatives, her boss, her workmates and everyone who cared about her with her excellent performance.
“There is never a stop on study and as long as we grasp any opportunity and sincerely manage what we want to do and should do, even if starting as a layman, we could qualify ourselves to some extent with our definite identification, hard study and forward pacing.”
Sincerely Treating Others and Feeling No Regrets for our life
Judy Lu says, she appreciates one word from Mr. Wu Dayou very much that he has no regrets because of sincerity. She feels quite a lot that not only does she treat others sincerely, but also she follows suit and influences others with what she does. She emphasizes that if you make a comparison between what a professional hotelier should do and what a non-professional should endeavor, you will find if a professional lacks of sincerity, what he does would be with flaws; but if a non-professional does everything sincerely and always with hard study, then his potential as a hotelier would be beyond border. After years of hard working, she has established her own working philosophy that to treat everyone with the same attitude and to express your sincerity. The company is the place you practice with your personality that the image of the company would be more perfect as long as there is an update of everyone’s personality.
Judy Lu believes that sincerity means you are always willing to pay more for others. The first element of sincerity is to be royal to yourself. You should do what you want to do in your own way, neither disrupted by the surrounding nor influenced by the pressure of the reality. “Just deep inside my heart, I feel I am in the crisis every moment, because I understand my ‘resources’ are limited. Such a pressure would uplift my demand and expectation towards myself. As a result, when I deal with the hot potato, I would pay more attention and would keep a more profound understanding.”
When reviewing my past thirty-year career, Judy Lu says that she had experienced every job the girls dream of and expect. She once was the anchor of an entertainment program named as “Wan Zi Qian Hong” (in English it means Marvelous Color), a singer from the program “Star Everyday”, a professional model under Wang Rongsheng, the famous senior model broker and an artist playing with Ke Junxiong, the Movie King on the same stage.
“At that time, though my job was successful, I was not complacent and want to find a stable and sustainable one with a satisfied salary. When seeing the recruitment ads of China Airlines on the newspaper, I just register and try it.”
Deep Understanding of Service Essence from the Air-service
Outstanding from 4,000 candidates, Judy Lu left the colorful entertainment circle and became one of the 14th air service training class, involving into the air-service. Was there any impact of her past work on her today’s job? She says that she had been triggered to think carefully the moment she prepared her examination and the moment she was on the examination. She thought how to perform was the most suitable.
The training after matriculation had made her understand more about how to deal with things more appropriate, more about the essences of service and more about the key points of the crisis management. When I became a formal stewardess, my job content and the borderless working circumstances had enlarged my knowledge, broaden my mind and asked me to deal with things more appropriately. Meanwhile, I could observe the others and manage the mood successfully. Judy Lu states that “the target of one’s life is to offer the service”. The job of a stewardess is to serve people, which means your customers are your family members as you look on yourself as a hostess and all you should do is to serve initiatively. When you think the hostess should care about your customers, your service attitude would be good naturally. This all depends on the way you think and the methods you perfect your job.
“The performance of a stewardess is an excellent way to keep a good relation with the foreigners according to what you do. Every single behavior would indicate the nature and manner of the Chinese female. If you respect your job, then the image would surely be escalated,” she says, when she had a rest to visit abroad, she found it was a kind of subtle study to feel and experience. The essence and idea of services she had learnt from her job had made her abundant in the future life and her present habits of reading and doing sports from that moment benefited her a lot until today.
When talking about the life planning, Judy Lu says candidly that her life could hardly follow her own plan. For example, what she thought was very unsophisticated when she was young. She just wanted to finish her college study, but had to drop out her study because of the poverty of her family. When performing in the entertainment circle, though she loved her job, she had given it up decisively and changed her job. It was because clearly as she thought, she could not escape the situation of losing control of herself in the near future if she kept it on.
People make it happen
It is a constant mind that forges Judy Lu into a VIP Service Director General of a Five-star hotel from a stewardess.
When Judy Lu recalls her past, every job has shown the charming side, yet with some challenges. “People make it happen” seems not only to be her life motto, but also her career faith. When she was a stewardess,she had experienced times of dizziness and vomit for seven years.
She laughs at herself and says that she, herself, neither is an offspring of a celebrity, nor has someone support her and the reason why she achieve the position of the VIP Service Director General in Far Eastern Hotel Plaza after examinations, all depends on her confidence, strong mind and years of accumulation.
She tries her best to offer the most comfortable services during her job. The most impressive service case was to assist Ully Gorbachev to make a painting exhibition. In addition to assist him with accommodation and dinner, she also helped him sale his products. The opening of the report conferences had not only greatly increased the hotel’s exposal rate to the public, but also uplifted the image of the hotel.
Reading is a long-standing habit of Judy Lu and the encouraging kind of books is her favorite. She believes that almost half of her strong willpower would be attributed to reading. She understands her goal clearly that when she was sad and felt frustrated, she would pick up the encouraging books to regain her confidence.
“Success comes from persistence” is the maxim of Judy Lu. She emphasizes that depending on the limited sources from the very beginning, every setback had never defeated her. In stead, she would be brave to face every challenge in her life. Judy Lu believes that in order to seek excellence from the commonplace, one must take a serious consideration, assess and integrate all the sources, set a right goal, look for every possible drive to success and establish a good mental construction, then to create his own career would not be a hard business, in addition to the active actions, self-confirmation and persistence.
Personality and Self-esteem—the Forever Asset for her Life
“The road an angel is fearful to go would be a piece of a cake for the moron.” Unsophisticated and straight-forward as she is, Judy Lu is always eager to have a try and adamant to confront with the every challenge and frustration. Her strong willpower and endless endeavor have become the best example of “Heaven helps the one who helps himself” and “People make it happen”.
At the very beginning of Far Eastern Plaza Hotel, Judy Lu, a freshman in hotel business, accepted the position of the VIP Service Director General. Though she was a layman and once disappointed the public, she made up herself in the professional knowledge with her strong mind, courage and insight as well as with her positive attitude. It is Judy Lu who set up the professional impression of the Far Eastern Plaza Hotel with her action.
During her career, she insists that success comes from the solid work. As to her, the importance of the experience accumulation during the course of assessing the purpose is far superior to the outcome. “The shortsighted would only see the nearest benefit and their achievement would be limited; though the longsighted would experience more hard work during the whole course, they would receive a boundless success.” This is what she deeply believes without any doubt.
The good-looking and the fairly body shape are the born gift given by God. With the outstanding condition, for some time she was once a model, singer and TV anchor who would be admired or even envied by everyone for the job. However, owing to the flawy broker rules at that time and her strong respect to her personality and moral, she left decisively this shining job. Though no one would like to praise her determination, she made her own choice to perform herself.
We could easily find confidence and wisdom from today’s Judy Lu, however, her mature and wisdom she possesses are born from her solid steps without any luck. In the eyes of many people, Judy Lu is like a moron because they don’t understand why she would like abandon the splendid future and realize herself in her own way. However, the facts have proved everything and Judy Lu won her own sky in the end.
That simply but hard-charging warmness still vigorously extend in all her life idea and working attitude.
