Have you been to Yichuan before? What is your impression on this city?
Arriving to Yinchuan in August 2009 was my first visit. I find Yinchuan to be very beautiful, especially in the surrounding areas such as the Helen Mountains. The people of Yinchuan are genuine and very sincere. They have made my stay so far very comfortable and welcome.
Kempinski has its own standard to employ the staff, what is the main employee from in this hotel?
I am trying to focus on as many employees as we can find from the region, there are circumstances that we have to bring more experienced staff from other regions of China which is normal in this case. Over the long term, we are targeting to have more training involved in the hotel to train the regional staff in Ningxia to take over these positions, a great part of essence of Kempinski hotel Yichuan will be about staff, this for me is very important to hire as many employees as we can from Yichuan city as well as from the region.
There are few international hotels in Yinchuan, what do you think the main competitor is?
As the only five star luxury hotel in Yinchuan city we do not have a direct competitor. Our international standards are world renowned and our facilities are more advanced than local competitors. The complex also features a 19 floor office tower attached to the hotel making this an attraction for most business travelers to Yinchuan. But in the future, it will change, when people begin to see how important Yichuan is in the region.
What is your promotion strategies for this newly opened hotel?
Our very special opening rate “Book 2 nights and receive the third night complimentary” will be very popular. This promotion includes breakfast and free internet. This promotion will be for three months once our doors open.
What do you think the main guests of Kempinski hotel Yichuan from?
The hotel will become a landmark in the city and surrounding areas and a focal point for government and corporate accommodations, meeting, conference and entertainment needs plus the preferred venue for hosting dignitaries to the city. And we do have modern facilities for people to get married, to enjoy the moment they have. For Being an internationally managed 5 star hotel with a good location and high quality hotel facilities and services, we will attract high-end domestic business people as well as a high share of the smaller international business market. While leisure is an even smaller market in Yinchuan, we will have some national and international tourists.

Not directly, in the public areas of the hotel, we do feature some art which represent the region, there are a lot of modern features that represent the region. The most important I think is the staff coming from the Yichuan city, they are gracious and natural, I think a lot of our visitors will see that when they are in the hotel, so the most important of the autonomy is the human part I think.

A successful management experience for me is when we complete a Kempinski hotel ready for opening. The planning and finishing of the project is key to the success of the hotel. Another successful management experience is when our guests depart happy and content from our hotel with positive comments.
